On 11.22.2024, NYS-licensed “Dealers in Firearms” signed on to the New York “NICS” background check system and found a blue text box, including “You can now update Ammo Details” with four bullet points. This is a screenshot. The NYS Police are signaling a dealer can alter an earlier ammunition background check record to change the quantity of ammunition field and piggy-back one additional sale per customer per 30-day period without performing a second ammunition background check.
Dealers may find of interest to review NY Penal Law s.400.02(2) concerning their responsibilities under the “SAFE Act,” as amended, to perform the ammunition background check.
